What is simu SOLAR?

The calculation of solar potential with simu SOLAR is based on exact 3D city models or high-resolution laserscan data, that cover more and more areas.
Existing datasets can be checked for their suitability by us in advance, to ensure a high-quality result. If the quality of the required input data is not sufficient, the corresponding geo data can be generated with high quality by our cooperation partners.

The calculation program has interfaces to all current data formats. Interface to special data formats can be configured by individual programming.

On the basis of existing input datasets simu SOLAR evaluates the geometric parameters size, orientation and inclination that are crucial for the suitability of roof surfaces.
The use of 3D city models permits a direct derivation of these parameters. At the use of laserscan data an automatic detection of the roof area is performed in advance.

The program automatically segments the received surfaces into sections in order to capture alternating shadowing accurately. The resolution of the calculation lattice can be set between 0,1 m and 0,5 m.

The calculation of the yearly radiation is based on a representative time series with a temporal resolution that is exact to the minute. Shadowing effects caused by surrounding buildings, trees and topography that could lead to yield cuts of solar power systems will be accounted for in detail by horizon lines.

Due to different shadowing effects a separate balancing is made for diffuse and direct radiation. The determination of diffuse sky radiation is made by the PEREZ model approach. This makes simu SOLAR globally applicable.

The methodical approach of simu SOLAR guarantees that the degree of accuracy of the underlying geometry modelling of roof surfaces and environment is represented exactly in the results. The effective use of memory and the resulting short calculating time enable simu SOLAR to calculate the solar potential of whole cities or regions.
